Taiwan’s Cabinet passes same-sex marriage bill

A bill proposed by the Ministry of Justice on same-sex marriage in Taiwan was approved Feb. 21 by the Cabinet, underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting freedom, human rights, and the right to marry and found a family.

MOFA welcomes resolution by US-based Association of State Democratic Committees marking 40th anniversary of Taiwan Relations Act

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) welcomes and appreciates the resolution passed by the Executive Committee of the Association of State Democratic Committees (ASDC) at its winter meeting on February 13 to reaffirm the US commitment to Taiwan on the 40th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act. The resolution highlighted the Democratic Party’s staunch support of Taiwan-US relations.

Smart machine production hits another record high

At Thursday’s weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Su Tseng-chang said that the Smart Machinery Development Program has produced encouraging results since its launch, powering a 7.3-percent increase in the industry’s production value, from a record of over NT$1 trillion (US$32.4 billion) in 2017 to a new record high of NT$1.18 trillion (US$38.3 billion) in 2018.

Taiwan’s agricultural exports hit 20-year high

Premier Su Tseng-chang on Thursday said that in 2018 the total value of Taiwan’s agricultural exports hit US$5.47 billion, a 20-year high, and agricultural exports to China alone grew by 23 percent, setting a new record at US$1.27 billion. The government has continued to develop new markets and steadily increase exports to countries covered by the New Southbound Policy.
