Vietjet to launch regular flights between Taiwan and Can Tho

Vietnamese budget carrier Vietjet Air announced Friday that it will begin operating regular flights between Taiwan and Can Tho, southwestern Vietnam in January. The Taoyuan-Can Tho route will include four round-trip flights per week, starting from Jan. 10, 2020, the carrier said, adding that the new service aims to expand the airline's international flight network while creating more convenient connections for travelers looking to visit famous destinations in Vietnam.

Indonesia's Batik Air to open Taoyuan-Jakarta route Dec. 13

Indonesia's Batik Air will open a daily service between Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Jakarta Dec. 13, according to Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration. Flights will depart from Taoyuan at midnight, arriving in Jakarta at 4:30 a.m., while the return route will leave Jakarta at 4:30 p.m., arriving in Taoyuan at 11 p.m.

Taiwanese swimmer wins silver medal at U.S. Open Championships

Wang Kuan-hung (王冠閎) on Saturday became the first Taiwanese to win a medal at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships when he finished second in the men's 200-meter butterfly competition. The teenager, the first Taiwanese to win a medal at the U.S. Championships, had already qualified for 2020 Tokyo Olympics when he clocked 1:56.48 in the 200m butterfly event at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in August.
