Taiwan is committed to strengthening exchanges with fellow members of the Asian Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union in an effort to advance regional development in culture, economy, society and tourism, Legislative Yuan President Su Jia-chyuan said at the APPU gathering Sept. 18-20 in Oita prefecture, southern Japan.

The 2017 Asia-Pacific Culture Day is set to take place Sept. 23-24 at Taipei Main Station, highlighting government efforts to strengthen ties with Republic of China (Taiwan) diplomatic allies and partners throughout the region in line with the New Southbound Policy.

Encourage the publication of translations of Taiwan’s literature, in the territories of South Asia, Southeast Asia and Australasia , as well as to fund exchange trips for publishers and the publication of original titles that deal with the cultures of Taiwan and the Pivot South nations, as well as the topic of cultural exchange between them. 

A central plank in the government’s national development strategy, the policy seeks to deepen Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, trade and tourism links with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand.

A short film highlighting Taiwan’s efforts in support of the U.N. 2030 Sustainable Development Goals was released Sept. 1 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Republic of China (Taiwan) released its Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals Sept. 15 in New York City, underscoring the country’s commitment to joining global efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequality, tackle climate change and ensure that no one is left behind.

President Tsai Ing-wen congratulated Sept. 14 Halimah Yacob on her swearing-in earlier the same day as Singapore’s eighth president and first female head of state, according to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The North Korean authorities once again undermined regional security and stability by launching a missile over Japanese airspace on the morning of September 15. Our National Security Council (NSC) promptly reported the latest information to President Tsai Ing-wen, and at 8:30 a.m. convened a meeting to assess the situation and develop a response.

With regard to this year's campaign to gain further participation in the United Nations system, the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), based on its steadfast diplomacy and the expectations of its people and following a careful review of all relevant factors, has decided to employ diverse channels and amplify its efforts, so as to clearly convey the heartfelt wishes of the 23 million people of Taiwan.

An international campaign publicizing the desire of the 23 million people of Taiwan to participate in the U.N. system was launched Sept. 11 in Taipei City by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
