On the morning of October 30, President Tsai Ing-wen addressed the opening of the Taiwan International Assembly of Space Science, Technology, and Industry (TASTI). President Tsai said that our government is making concerted efforts to create a favorable environment for the development of space industry in Taiwan, and that the budget, legal frameworks, and infrastructure for the development of this industry have gradually fallen into place.

On October 21 Presidential Office Spokesperson Olivia Lin (林聿禪) announced that President Tsai Ing-wen has invited Dr. Morris Chang (張忠謀), founder of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), to act as her representative to attend the 2023 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) to be held in San Francisco from November 15 to 17.

President Tsai Ing-wen presented the biennial Presidential Culture Awards to five individuals and groups Oct. 17 in Taipei City, praising their contributions in promoting national development through achievements in their respective fields.

On the morning of October 13, President Tsai Ing-wen met with participants in the 2023 Yushan Forum. In remarks, President Tsai thanked the participants for their keen interest in issues concerning Taiwan, and for providing valuable insights and advice at the Yushan Forum. The president noted that Taiwan will continue to do all it can to uphold regional peace and stability, and that we will participate in international affairs more actively than ever and deepen partnerships with other nations.

On the morning of October 11, President Tsai Ing-wen addressed the opening of the 2023 Yushan Forum. President Tsai said that the New Southbound Policy lies at the core of our Indo-Pacific strategy, and that we are sending a message to the world that in the face of the mounting threats of authoritarianism and climate change, as well as a global restructuring of supply chains, Taiwan is a secure and reliable partner.

President Tsai Ing-wen on the morning of October 10 attended the ROC’s 112th Double Tenth National Day Celebration in the plaza fronting the Presidential Office Building, and delivered an address titled “A calm and confident Taiwan: Moving our country forward, making the world a better place.”

On the afternoon of October 10, President Tsai Ing-wen met with former Prime Minister Scott Morrison of Australia, also a current member of parliament. In remarks, President Tsai said she looks forward to Taiwan and Australia further expanding cooperation across the board based on our existing foundation, so as to create even more business opportunities for both our countries.

President Tsai Ing-wen launched the country’s first domestically made submarine Sept. 28 in the southern city of Kaohsiung, underscoring the success of government efforts to enhance Taiwan’s defense capabilities.

On the morning of September 26, President Tsai Ing-wen met with a cross-party parliamentary delegation from Australia. In remarks, President Tsai noted that Taiwan is Australia’s fifth-largest trading partner and fourth-largest export market, and that Australia is Taiwan’s largest energy provider and a major source of agricultural goods.

On the afternoon of September 24, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the 2023 Presidential Hackathon awards ceremony, praising the award-winning teams for showing the problem-solving hackathon spirit and creating proposals for Taiwan that are both innovative and feasible.
