On August 4, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) stated that beginning at approximately 1:56 pm this afternoon China fired a total of 11 Dongfeng series ballistic missiles into waters to the northeast, southwest, and east of Taiwan. The spokesperson asked the public to remain calm, as national security and military units immediately detected the missiles and activated the relevant defense systems to ensure national security.

President Tsai Ing-wen attended a forum on indigenous peoples’ rights Aug. 1 in Taipei City, reiterating government commitment to the country’s original inhabitants and enhancing public awareness of their culture, history and languages.

In her remarks, President Tsai said that democratic alliances must adopt a coordinated response in the face of authoritarianism, and emphasized that the Taiwanese people are committed to defending our country, upholding our democratic way of life, and maintaining regional security and stability.

On the morning of July 27, President Tsai Ing-wen met with foreign participants from the Ketagalan Forum – 2022 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue. In remarks, President Tsai said that Taiwan is willing and able to meet the high standards of international trade norms, and hopes to help foster greater solidarity and cooperation among global democratic partners.

In response to the United States government’s announcement that it had notified Congress on July 15 (US EST) of the sale to Taiwan of US$108 million in spare and repair parts for tanks and combat vehicles as well as technical and logistical support, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) today (July 16) once again expressed sincere thanks to the US government for continuing to recognize the great importance of Taiwan’s defense needs and fulfilling its security commitments to Taiwan.
