On November 25, Labor Commissioner Chen Hsin-yu led a team from the Department of Labor (DOL) on a visit to 3 major night markets – Linjiang, Ningxia, and Raohe – in Taipei. The purpose of the trip is to remind vendors and businesses to exercise cautiousness when hiring foreign workers.

On November 22, Mayor Ko Wen-je attended the 2020 Water Lantern Festival near the Rainbow Bridge in Songshan District. He joined the representatives of Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia at the Xikou Wharf to release the floating lanterns with kids of new immigrant descent.

Taipei church gives free groceries to migrant workers, students

A Taipei church has been giving away free groceries and daily necessities to migrant workers and international students since late April, to help them through the new coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, a priest at the church said Friday. The events, held every Monday at Taipei's Saint Christopher's Church until the end of July, allow workers and students to select fresh vegetables, rice, frozen meat and fish, tea, and canned fish off metal racks.

Indonesia bank distributes masks to Indonesian migrant workers

Indonesian state-owned Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) said Sunday that it has distributed thousands of surgical face masks for Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan in an effort to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. Of that number, 2,000 pieces were distributed to Indonesian migrant workers in Tainan that day, BNI said.

To help settle disputes between migrant workers and their employers, Taipei City has launched the professional mediator system in 2018 with professional lawyers as mediators. In 2019, a total of 179 mediation meetings were held, successfully resolving at least 85% of the disputes.
