The Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) has dedicated on harmonizing the standards and certification schemes of halal products among Islamic countries, including Indonesia and Malaysia.

Since 2001, countries all over the world have been marking this day by organizing special events around a general theme set by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
