In response to the United States government’s June 8 (US EST) announcement that it had notified Congress of the sale to Taiwan of US$120 million in parts and equipment for naval vessels as well as related technical assistance, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) today (June 9) said that the government of Taiwan is sincerely grateful that the US government continues to uphold its security commitments to Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances.

On the morning of May 31, President Tsai Ing-wen met with a delegation led by United States Senator Tammy Duckworth. In remarks, President Tsai stated that Taiwan and the US are key economic and security partners in the Indo-Pacific region, and emphasized that Taiwan will continue to express willingness to participate in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework put forward by the US government.

President Tsai Ing-wen said May 16 that attracting more overseas investment in Taiwan remains a central plank in the government’s policy of strengthening the country’s economic competitiveness.

The government is promoting the Taiwan-U.S. partnership with a focus on strengthening the country’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific and with the international community, according to Vice President Lai Ching-te May 12.

On the morning of May 6, President Tsai Ing-wen met via videoconference with Japanese House of Representatives Member Ogura Masanobu, director of the Youth Division of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and members of his delegation. During the meeting, President Tsai thanked Japan for publicly supporting Taiwan’s international participation on many occasions and for showing its friendship by donating vaccines to Taiwan during the pandemic.

On the morning of May 5, President Tsai Ing-wen met with members of a delegation from Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party Youth Division, all of whom are also members of Japan’s House of Representatives, and thanked the government of Japan, the Diet, and Japanese political figures for supporting Taiwan’s international participation on many occasions.

President Tsai Ing-wen announced the government’s new measures to combat COVID-19 April 26, spotlighting the country’s efforts to adapt to a new phase of the pandemic and boost the economy while showcasing Taiwan as an island of resilience.

On the morning of April 22, Earth Day, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the 100 Re-Actions forum on environmental sustainability in Taipei. In remarks, President Tsai stated that the government will promote a broad transition across Taiwan’s energy sector, industry, lifestyle, and society on the foundations of technology R&D and climate legislation, working together with the public to accelerate progress toward the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.

Taiwan is committed to promoting the development of homegrown health care industries while playing a central role in achieving the World Health Organization’s goal of Health for All, according to Vice President Lai Ching-te April 19.

On the morning of April 15, President Tsai Ing-wen received a senior congressional delegation from the United States led by Senator Lindsey Graham. President Tsai thanked the US Congress for its staunch bipartisan support for Taiwan, and said that Taiwan looks forward to playing an active role in the new US Indo-Pacific Strategy, working with the US to safeguard regional peace and stability and to stimulate further prosperity through economic cooperation and trade in the Indo-Pacific region.
