New Taipei City Government and Amazon Web Services, a cloud computing subsidiary of Amazon.com Inc., signed Jan. 11 a memorandum of understanding to jointly establish an internet innovation center in the northern Taiwan metropolis.

Yuejin Lantern Festival is set to kick off Feb. 10 in southern Taiwan’s Tainan City, spotlighting the rich history and cultural vitality of historic Yuejin port through more than 40 innovative and eye-catching light installations by local and foreign talents.

The 2018 Taiwan Lantern Festival will be held in Chiayi in March 2~11, 2018. The lanterns will be officially turned on at the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum on March 2, the day of the Lantern Festival. “Taichung International Flower Carpet Festival” is fascinatingly held from the 23rd this month until January 7th next year at the Houli Flower Farm (Huatien) Greenway.

The 7th Asia Design Award (ADA) was held in The Splendor Hotel Taichung on December 7, 2017. Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung was invited to have a brilliant conversation with Kazuyo Sejima, the winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize and the architect of the Taichung Green Museumbrary.

Mayor Ko Wen-je invited entrepreneurs to establish business in Taipei, pledging government support as he spoke to the crowd at the opening reception for the “Fastrack Creative and Innovation Center” on December 11.

At the witness of the organization’s president Tatsuya Watanabe, Mayor Ko Wen-je accepted the certificate from International Fair Trade Towns Steering Committee (IFTTSC) in a press event on December 12. This marked a milestone for Taipei, as it became the first fair trade city in the Chinese world.

In mid-December every year, runners take to the streets of Taiwan’s capital for the Taipei Marathon. The race was launched more than 30 years ago as the first event of its kind in the country. Previously supported by ING Life Taiwan and now sponsored by Fubon Life, it has proven a great success, attracting a record high of about 100,000 participants in 2014.

The Taichung World Flora Exposition will be held in 2018.
