On the morning of September 20, President Lai Ching-te attended the opening of the Resilient Taiwan for Sustainable Democracy International Forum. In remarks, President Lai stated that as Taiwan and a host of other countries worldwide face the two major challenges posed by extreme climate and authoritarian systems, we must take action and step up our preparedness.
On the afternoon of September 16, President Lai Ching-te met with Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association Chairman Sumi Shuzo. In remarks, President Lai expressed confidence that Taiwan-Japan relations will flourish even more under the leadership of Chairman Sumi, with his extensive experience and foresight. The president also expressed hoped that Taiwan and Japan will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation and contribute even more to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
President Lai Ching-te said Sept. 10 that the government is committed to strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors to build a more secure, stable and sustainable future for Taiwan.
On the afternoon of September 2, President Lai Ching-te met with a delegation from the University of Tokyo’s cross-strait relations research group. The president thanked the delegation for its long-time attention to the situation in the Taiwan Strait and peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. He also expressed hope for further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Taiwan and Japan through exchanges.
On the afternoon of August 29, President Lai Ching-te met with a delegation led by US Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker. In remarks, President Lai thanked the Senate Armed Services Committee for the strong backing it has lent Taiwan over the years. The president emphasized that Taiwan will continue strengthening its defense capabilities, demonstrating determination to protect the homeland.
On the morning of August 28, President Lai Ching-te attended the opening ceremony of the 53rd Asian-Pacific Parliamentarians’ Union (APPU) General Assembly. In remarks, President Lai thanked the APPU for long providing a platform for countries around the world to engage in legislative diplomacy, exchanges, and cooperation, promoting prosperity and progress in Asia.
Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim said Aug. 14 that Taiwan is committed to protecting and promoting its Indigenous cultures and languages while working to deepen cooperation and exchanges with Indigenous peoples worldwide.
On the morning of August 14, President Lai Ching-te met with a delegation of experts and scholars from the Brookings Institution. In remarks, President Lai thanked friends in the government, Congress, and think tanks in the United States for their longstanding and bipartisan support.
Speaking at the 2025 Taiwan Venture Capital Summit Aug. 12, President Lai Ching-te said that the government is committed to promoting entrepreneurship to drive the local economy and benefit citizens.
On the morning of August 5, President Lai Ching-te attended the opening of the Ketagalan Forum: 2025 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue. In remarks, President Lai stated that Taiwan holds a key position on the first island chain, making it a keystone of Indo-Pacific peace and stability.
