President Tsai Ing-wen convened a high-level national security meeting May 13 at the Presidential Office in Taipei City following recent developments potentially impacting the health and well-being of the people of Taiwan.

On May 10, President Tsai Ing-wen addressed the Alliance of Democracies (AoD) Foundation’s fourth annual Copenhagen Democracy Summit by video.

President Tsai Ing-wen said May 4 that the government is sparing no efforts in strengthening the country’s legal framework, accelerating talent cultivation and working with the private sector to build Taiwan into a bastion of cybersecurity.

On May 4, President Tsai Ing-wen was announced as this year's winner of the John McCain Prize for Leadership in Public Service by the Halifax International Security Forum. Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said that President Tsai is honored to accept this award as a recognition not of her own accomplishments, but of those of all the people of Taiwan.

On the morning of April 22, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the opening ceremony of the 2021 Social Design Action Forum, entitled “Sustainability—The Solutions for Our Earth.” In her remarks at the event, President Tsai noted that we all have a common goal: to cut carbon emissions and slow climate change, thereby reducing the resulting impacts and giving humans and all living things a sustainable environment. At the same time, she said, carbon reduction will prompt profound economic changes.

Vice President Lai Ching-te said April 27 that Taiwan is committed to deepening cooperation and exchanges with European countries in the post-pandemic era.

On the evening of April 21, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the annual Hsieh Nien Fan (謝年飯) banquet hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (AmCham Taiwan).

On the morning of April 15, President Tsai Ing-wen met a senior delegation sent by US President Joe Biden at the Presidential Office. President Tsai noted that the delegation’s visit highlights the growing partnership between Taiwan and the United States, and demonstrates US bipartisan support for Taiwan. The president expressed optimism that continued cooperation between Taiwan and the United States will strengthen our bilateral partnership and yield even more fruitful results.

President Tsai Ing-wen said April 13 that the government fully supports Taiwan’s athletes and will prioritize their safety while they represent the country at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics set to be held July 23 to August 8.

On the afternoon of March 30, President Tsai Ing-wen met with Palau President Surangel Whipps Jr. and his wife at the Presidential Office in Taipei, and welcomed the forthcoming launch of the Taiwan-Palau travel bubble as a historic moment for cooperation between the two countries.
