Twelve winners of the 2020 Presidential Hackathon were honored Sept. 20 at the Presidential Office in Taipei City, spotlighting government efforts to address societal needs through innovation, interdisciplinary cooperation and open source data utilization.
While addressing the Ketagalan Forum－2020 Asia-Pacific Security Dialogue on the morning of September 8, President Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that security and economic development are inextricably linked. She stated that by coming together to build a free, open and prosperous region, like-minded countries can continue to drive future development.
President Tsai Ing-wen recently delivered a virtual address at the Indo-Pacific Leaders Dialogue session at the invitation of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), a think tank based in Canberra. She also fielded prepared questions from the participants.
On the evening of August 25, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the American Chamber of Commerce Taipei (AmCham Taipei) Hsieh Nien Fan (謝年飯) celebration. She emphasized that the Taiwan government is committed to securing a robust investment environment to the benefit of us all. The president also stated that we look forward to working continuously with the US government and AmCham Taipei to facilitate our mutual interests through our shared values.
President Tsai Ing-wen says Taiwan wants to strengthen ties with countries targeted by the government’s New Southbound policy when the COVID-19 pandemic eases. Tsai was speaking Tuesday.
At the invitation of US-based think tanks, the Hudson Institute and the Center for American Progress (CAP), President Tsai Ing-wen participated in a videoconference on the theme “President Tsai Ing-wen Discusses the Diplomatic, Security and Economic Challenges Facing Taiwan,” delivering a speech entitled “Protecting Taiwan as a bastion of freedom in the Indo-Pacific.”
President Tsai Ing-wen met with US Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Alex Azar on the morning of August 10. The president stated that we look forward to making substantial progress on joint efforts to develop and produce vaccines and drugs. She also emphasized once again that political considerations should not override the human right to health.
In remarks at the opening ceremony for the 2020 BIO Asia-Taiwan Conference and Exhibition on the morning of July 23, President Tsai Ing-wen emphasized that in our “5+2 industrial innovation program” the biomedical industry is one of our top priorities for development.
Vice President Lai Ching-te addressed the BIO Asia–Taiwan 2020 Conference by video at noon on July 22, emphasizing that Taiwan’s success in containing COVID-19 has attracted worldwide attention, and the key factors in that success were: prudent action, rapid response, and early deployment.
Spokesperson Huang went on to say that this sale includes logistics support and technical services for Taiwan's Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) air defense missiles and technical services. In light of China's recent escalation of military pressure in the Taiwan Strait and throughout the region, this arms package will further solidify Taiwan's high-altitude defense capabilities.
