Starting July 13, employer transfers for all foreign workers to be restored; new employers must arrange PCR testing for newly-employed foreign workers within three days prior to their first day of work

On July 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that starting July 13, all foreign workers will be again allowed to change employers or jobs. However, the dispatch of foreign workers to another work site and the assignment of additional work responsibilities to foreign workers will remain suspended given the relatively high mobility of foreign workers. Such policy will be reviewed based on the status of the pandemic.

Loan amounts for local businesses to be increased to spur domestic investment

Premier Su Tseng-chang said on Thursday that the cap for loans available to enterprises will be boosted by NT$150 billion (US$5.4 billion) as a means of providing strong support for local companies. His announcement came following a briefing by the Ministry of Economic Affairs on two investment incentive programs aimed at domestically based Taiwanese businesses.

On July 8, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that after assessing the COVID-19 situation in Taiwan, it has decided to extend its nationwide Level 3 epidemic alert until July 26 to protect the health of people in Taiwan, and it will partially lift certain restrictions starting July 13. CABEI Country Office in Taiwan has started to operate, the first in Asia.

The Minister of Finance, Dr. Jain-Rong Su, and the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Dr. Dante Mossi, signed an agreement for establishing a country office in Taiwan at the virtual meeting on April 23, 2021 (Taiwan time). Having prepared for two months, CABEI Country Office in Taiwan started to operate on the 83rd floor of Taipei 101 on July 6, 2021, the first branch office in Asia.

On July 1, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that starting today, the transfer of foreign workers working as home care workers and home helps to new employers consecutively hiring these two types of foreign workers (including a transfer resulting from the expiration of the employment contract) may be allowed again, whereas the transfer of foreign workers in other industries remains halted; the policy will be reviewed based on the status of the pandemic.

The 11th round of Trade and Investment Frame Agreement (TIFA) meetings between Taiwan and the United States began Wednesday at 7 a.m. (Taiwan time) via videoconferencing before concluding successfully in the afternoon. The talks were led by the Deputy Trade Representative Yang Jen-ni of the Executive Yuan's Office of Trade Negotiations (OTN) and Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Terrence McCartin of the Office of the United States Trade Representative.
