Taipei City is set to host the World Congress on Information Technology Sept. 10-13, attracting more than 90 industry experts and 2,500 business leaders from 80 countries and territories to discuss and exchange ideas on the latest technology developments.

A gathering was held on June 25 in Taipei which Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) Minister Wu Hsin-hsing was invited to attend. He said at the event that the spending power of visitors from the ASEAN region is remarkable and that the government is very keen to see compatriots and Taiwan-owned companies bring their employees to Taiwan on vacation to increase the number of visitors Taiwan receives overall, boosting the revenues of travel-related industries.

In an address coinciding with the launch of the strategy, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) said the government would leave no stone unturned in fostering well-balanced tourism development around the country on the basis of a smart, experiential model aimed at diversifying source markets.

Taiwan is committed to becoming a champion of sustainable tourism and will work with fellow Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation member economies to implement and share best practices for inclusive, environmentally responsible growth, Minister of Transportation and Communications Ho Chen Tan said.

Of the leading visitor source countries, Thailand topped the growth list with a gain of 30.63 percent, followed by Indonesia at 22.52 percent, India at 20.86 percent and Vietnam at 20.44 percent.
