An international campaign promoting Taiwan’s bid to participate in the activities, mechanisms and meetings of the U.N. as a key partner in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals was launched by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York in the U.S. city.

A video released by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China via its official Twitter account in support of Taiwan-Lithuania ties is warmly welcomed by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sept. 13.

A short film urging the U.N. to give Taiwan a voice at the general assembly and other activities, mechanisms and meetings of the world body was released Sept. 8 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has published a call in the Boston Globe for the UN to accept Taiwanese membership. That’s ahead of the opening of the 76th UN General Assembly meeting next week.

The 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to convene at the UN Headquarters in New York on September 14, with the General Debate to be held from September 21 to 27. The theme for this year’s UN General Assembly and General Debate will be “Building resilience through hope—to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainably, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of people, and revitalize the United Nations.”

A total of 200 oxygen concentrators were donated by Taiwan to Malaysia Sept. 3, underscoring the government’s commitment to helping the New Southbound Policy target country combat COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On September 6, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that considering that the pandemic in Taiwan has continued to subside with sporadic cases of domestic cases with unknown sources of infection, it will maintain the Level 2 epidemic alert, effective from September 7 to September 20, and will continue to implement or adjust related control measures. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ 7th Trending Taiwan Short Film Competition is accepting entries from August 31 to October 16. This year, as well as the existing creative/open category, which encourages documentary-style entries, a new brand story category invites participants to think outside the box in highlighting diverse Taiwanese stories, allowing the world an insight into Taiwan’s DNA.

On August 21, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that as the pandemic has continued to subside in Taiwan and the 2021 school semester is about to start, after evaluation, it will allow again overseas students pursuing degrees and the recipients of the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship in the new semester to apply to enter Taiwan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Prospect Foundation will hold the Ketagalan Forum—2021 Asia-Pacific Security Dialogue on Tuesday, August 31. The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) looks forward to strengthening cooperation and dialogue with all parties concerned through the forum and working together to maintain and promote peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
