On May 16, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that starting May 17, it will introduce the following medical responsive measures for all medical institutions in Taiwan as Taiwan has entered the community transmission stage of COVID-19.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the launch of Formosa Club in the Caribbean May 14, thanking members for their pledge to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the international governance system, including the World Health Organization.

On May 15, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that in response to continued severity of COVID-19 in Taiwan and an increasing level of community transmission, shown by cases of unknown sources of infection as well as cluster infections in Taipei City and New Taipei City, it would raise the epidemic warning level for the two cities to Level 3 and would strengthen related measures, effective from today to May 28. Related restrictions and measures are listed below.

On May 14, the Central Epidemic Command Center announced that the Taiwan Social Distance app had been launched to be used by the public.

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) has announced a four-level system of COVID-19 alerts, each with defining criteria and a set of prevention measures to be imposed in response.
Taiwan is currently at a Level 2 alert, but Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said Wednesday that the alert level could be raised to 3 “in the coming days” depending on how the situation develops.

On May 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported that multiple infections linked to workplace and family clusters and local cases of unknown sources of infection had been reported in Singapore recently. The CECC also pointed out that there had been a cumulative total of over 450 local confirmed cases in Vietnam since April 29. Therefore, the CECC will move Singapore and Vietnam to its list of medium-risk countries from low-risk countries, effective immediately.

Premier Su Tseng-chang on Tuesday visited the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) and announced that enhanced COVID-19 prevention measures will be put in place through June 8. The measures—to be stronger, faster and wider in scope—will be implemented stringently and thoroughly to prevent further outbreaks. The premier strongly encouraged members of the public to get the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves and the community at large.

The Formosa Club Indo-Pacific was launched May 7 via a videoconference involving Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang and a selection of the 250 lawmakers from 17 countries and territories who have joined the grouping.

On May 11, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that in response to the increased risk of community transmission caused by local cases of unknown sources of infection in Taiwan, it would raise epidemic warning to Level 2: Local Cases of Unknown Sources, effective from today to June 8, a total of four weeks, and would impose restrictions on personal activities, going out, gatherings, business venues, public transportation and other related measures.

A statement issued by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken backing Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs May 8.
