US government officially notifies Taiwan of latest arms sale

MOFA response to collision between Chinese and Philippine vessels near Second Thomas Shoal in South China Sea

The China Coast Guard (CCG) on June 15 announced the implementation of the Provisions on Administrative Law Enforcement Procedures of Coast Guard Agencies. Formulated in line with China’s Coast Guard Law, the provisions authorize the CCG to board, inspect, and detain foreign vessels and persons suspected of violating exit and entry procedures in waters that China considers to be under its jurisdiction. The Group of Seven (G7) leaders’ summit was held in Apulia, Italy, from June 13 to 15. A joint communiqué issued at its conclusion reaffirmed that maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait was indispensable to international security and prosperity, called for a peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues, and supported Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations, including in the World Health Assembly and World Health Organization technical meetings.

US government officially notifies Taiwan of latest arms sale

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has received official notification from the United States government that its executive branch has informed Congress of an approximately US$300 million sale to Taiwan of standard and nonstandard aviation parts and equipment for F-16 aircraft, with a view to assisting in strengthening Taiwan’s self-defense capabilities.
