MOFA unveils recipients of 6M surgical masks donation

The recipients of 6 million surgical masks pledged by Taiwan five days earlier for use as personal protective equipment by frontline medical personnel combating coronavirus in America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific were unveiled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs April 14.

MOFA urges WHO to promptly facilitate Taiwan’s comprehensive participation, directly communicate with Taiwan

Following the publication of a large advertisement in the New York Times calling for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization, which a group of Taiwan nationals had submitted of their own accord, the WHO Secretariat issued a 13-point statement on April 15 in response to media inquiries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs commends WHO for beginning to acknowledge Taiwan’s existence and showing willingness to publicly discuss the issue of Taiwan’s participation in the organization.

300,000 masks being donated by Taiwan to Philippines

Taiwan's government is donating 300,000 face masks to the Philippines as part of its new pledge to give 6 million masks to regional countries to help them fight the new coronavirus pandemic. The size of the donation was disclosed by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines in a statement Monday evening.

The government will allocate an additional NT$2 billion (US$66.46 million) to help the agricultural sector cope with disruptions from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) epidemic, bringing the total to NT$8.8 billion. Council of Agriculture head Chen Chi-chung (陳吉仲) said Monday that NT$4.07 billion of the original NT$6.8 billion in funding has already been allocated in soft loans to agricultural businesses, and it was apparent that more would be needed.

MOFA announces second wave of international humanitarian assistance in wake of COVID-19

The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announced on April 1 that it was initiating a first wave of international humanitarian assistance in response to the continued spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, donating 10 million medical masks and other medical supplies to the US, Europe, and diplomatic allies. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Thursday that Taiwan has launched another round of donations of surgical face masks to countries severely affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, including some listed in its New Southbound Policy, European nations, and countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
