CORONAVIRUS/MOFA launches web page to showcase Taiwan model in COVID-19 fight

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has introduced a special section on its website titled “The Taiwan Model for Combating COVID-19,” an English page that tells foreign readers about Taiwan’s so-far successful approach to containing the global outbreak.

Taiwan could boost daily mask output to 19 million by mid-May

Taiwan could see its surgical face mask production top 19 million per day by mid-May after 22 additional production lines went into operation, Economic Affairs Minister Shen Jong-chin (沈榮津) said Tuesday. Speaking during a radio interview, he said that the 19 million daily output is only a conservative estimate, expressing optimism that the 22 additional production lines could exceed that number once they are running smoothly.

Taiwan’s Minister of Health and Welfare Shih-Chung Chen and Secretary Alex Azar II of the United States Department of Health and Human Services held a bilateral virtual meeting at 8:00 p.m. on April 27, Taiwan time (8:00 a.m. April 27, Eastern Standard Time).

Taiwan calls for restraint in South China Sea

Taiwan's government has reasserted its sovereignty over the South China Sea and called on all claimants of the disputed waters to exercise restraint amid rising tensions. In a statement released late Friday, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) expressed "stern protest and concerns" on the actions and statements of some countries in the region pertaining to the South China Sea.

2,074 foreign nationals staying illegally agree to leave

More than 2,000 foreign nationals illegally staying in Taiwan have turned themselves in or been seized over the past month under an expanded amnesty program launched because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) said on Friday.

To encourage participation and allow entrants to begin collecting footage, MOFA is making an early call for entries for the 6th Trending Taiwan Short Film Competition. As well as the creative category of previous years, this year we’re adding a special prize for short films which deal with Taiwan’s pandemic prevention measures against the COVID-19 virus, inviting budding Taiwanese and foreign filmmakers to showcase Taiwan’s efforts and achievements in this regard.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) expresses strong dissatisfaction over the World Health Organization Secretariat’s press conference on April 15, at which it responded to Taiwan’s efforts to participate in WHO by erroneously citing UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and World Health Assembly Resolution 25.1 and misleadingly claiming that Taiwan and WHO share good and extensive interactions.
