New and current international students enrolled in elementary and secondary schools in Taiwan will be allowed to enter the country with immediate effect, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said Wednesday, as Taiwan further eased its border restrictions. The restrictions, which were imposed in March as part of Taiwan's COVID-19 pandemic response, are being lifted in phases, with the latest change addressing the entry of foreign students below university level.
On August 12, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that one new confirmed imported case (Case #481) of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. A cumulative total of 83,828 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 82,776. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 481 cases.
All travelers arriving from the Philippines will be quarantined at official quarantine locations starting Wednesday, due to the rising number of imported COVID-19 cases from the country, including a new case on Sunday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
