Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang Attends United Chinese Library’s 108th Anniversary cum SG53 Celebration

Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang, Deputy Representative Steven Tai and other officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore attended the lunch reception held by the United Chinese Library on 5 August 2018 to mark its 108th anniversary as well as Singapore’s 53 years of independence. Over 300 guests, including office bearers from the Overseas Community Affairs Council, the Alumni of Taiwan
Universities and Colleges, and other prominent Chinese associations in Singapore were at the event.

During his address at the lunch reception, Representative Liang said that Singapore’s transformation into a clean garden city as well as a modern technologically advanced city state over 53 years of its independence has won it many accolades worldwide.  Taiwan and Singapore have a longstanding friendship and enjoy close relations in various key areas including economy, culture, education and tourism.  In 2017, Taiwan surpassed Indonesia to become Singapore’s fifth largest trading partner.  Additionally, Representative Liang affirmed the role of the United Chinese Library, which has a heritage of over 100 years,  as an important Chinese cultural center and a memorial center to honor Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and his values.
