The government and people of Taiwan extend their warmest congratulations to India on the country’s 75th Independence Day, underscoring a commitment to deepening ties with the New Southbound Policy target country, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aug. 15.
India has emerged as the world’s largest and the most vibrant democracy and one of the fastest growing economies after 75 years of diligent development, MOFA Deputy Minister Tien Chung-kwang said. Based on mutual trust and shared values, the two countries have strengthened cooperation and exchanges in areas spanning culture, education, medicine, technology and trade over recent years, he added.
Tien made the remarks via a specially recorded video released to coincide with India’s Independence Day.
According to the MOFA, India and Taiwan are like-minded partners mutually committed to forging a free and open Indo-Pacific. The government will continue to advance bilateral relations across the board, the ministry added.
In a tweet on the MOFA’s official Twitter account, Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu said: “My warmest congratulations to Indian friends far & wide on #IndiaIndependenceDay. I salute the world's largest & Asia's earliest #Democracy, which occupies a special place in my heart. #Taiwan & #India are great democratic partners holding authoritarianism at bay!”
A key plank in the government’s national development strategy, the NSP seeks to enhance Taiwan’s agricultural, business, cultural, education, tourism and trade ties with the 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations member states, six South Asian countries, Australia and New Zealand. (DL-E)
