Taiwan is named the third best destination in the world for expatriates, according to the Expat Insider 2022 Survey released July 15 by Munich-based InterNations, the largest global network for people living abroad.
Close to 12,000 respondents representing 177 nationalities living in 181 countries and territories took part in the survey. Among the 52 destinations evaluated, Mexico and Indonesia came first and second, while Kuwait, New Zealand and Hong Kong placed at the bottom of the list.
Respondents’ levels of satisfaction were gauged across five indices: ease of settling in, expat essentials, personal finance, quality of life and working abroad. Taiwan scored second in quality of life due to strong showings in the subcategories of health and well-being, where it topped the list, and travel and transit, where it claimed seventh place.
In particular, the affordability and availability of Taiwan’s healthcare was appreciated by 100 percent and 98 percent of expats respectively, while 90 percent found it easy and safe to get around on foot or by bicycle.
Taiwan also performed well in the ease of settling in index due to its high rankings in the subcategories of local friendliness; finding friends; and culture and welcome. Overall, 78 percent of expats in Taiwan feel welcome and 67 percent have a personal support network.
The country scored eighth in the index of personal finance, the report said, adding that 70 percent of respondents are satisfied with their financial situation in Taiwan, compared to 60 percent globally.
In terms of other indices, Taiwan ranks 22nd in working abroad and 23rd in expat essentials.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said: “Quality of life reflects individuals’ happiness with the society & value systems in which they live. #Taiwan’s No. 2 worldwide for QL is a splendid showing & among many highlights for the country in @InterNationsorg’s Expat Insider report.” (YCH-E)
