The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) donated humanitarian aid to help the Philippines recover from the devastation caused by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (Nalgae)

On behalf of the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Representative Peiyung Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines (TECO) donated US$ 400,000 to the Republic of the Philippines as a disaster relief fund at a hand-over ceremony in TECO on 11 November 2022, to assist the people affected by the recent storm Paeng (Nalgae). Honorable Silvestre H. Bello III, Chairman and Resident Representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), accepted the donation on behalf of the government of the Republic of the Philippines.

As the closest neighbor of the Philippines, the people of Taiwan really sympathize with the victims worst affected by the Tropical Storm Paeng (Nalgae). Representative Hsu expressed Taiwan’s sincere condolences and sympathies to the victims and their families hit by the calamity, and sincerely hoped that the disaster areas will be rehabilitated earlier and the victims will return to their normal lives as soon as possible. Chairman Bello extended his heartfelt gratitude to the government and the people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) for their generosity and camaraderie on behalf of the Philippines.

The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has donated USD $1.1 million (php $ 63 million peso) to the government of the Philippines for disaster relief in the past one year. Taiwan will continue to collaborate with the Philippines on disaster prevention and climate resilience, and strengthen bilateral ties, including areas on agriculture, education, and tourism etc., to further enhance the well-being of both peoples.
