Taiwan Night: Celebrating Women in Tech was staged March 7 in New York City in the lead up to the International Women’s Day, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The evening was held at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York as a sideline event to the 67th session of the U.N. Commission on the Status of Women running March 6-17.
The highlight of the evening was a fashion show created by Claudia Wang, a young designer from Taiwan who combines her passion for art and design with virtual technology and sustainable fashion practices.
In an opening address, TECO in New York Director-General James K. Lee said Taiwan, as a global leader in the IT industry, is committed to sharing its experience with international partners. The event showcases the country’s promotion of gender equality in technology, he added.
Themba Masuku, deputy prime minister of Eswatini, then addressed the gathering and called for Taiwan’s inclusion in the U.N. The country’s exclusion from the international organization is unfair and unjustifiable, he added.
