US President Joe Biden and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese issued a joint statement on October 25 in Washington, DC, reaffirming the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, opposing unilateral changes to the status quo, and calling for the peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues through dialogue without the threat or use of force or coercion. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the statement and expresses its sincere appreciation to the leaders of the United States and Australia who, following their meeting in Hiroshima this May, have once again publicly underlined their staunch support for peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
China has repeatedly used various pretexts to escalate coercion and military intimidation against Taiwan, posing serious challenges to regional security and causing great concern within the international community. This year, joint statements from bilateral and multilateral events have demonstrated a high degree of international consensus on the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. These include the US-EU Summit; the Trilateral Leaders’ Summit of the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea; the Australia-US Ministerial Consultations (AUSMIN); the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, and the G7 Summit. As a responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue to work with the United States, Australia, and all other like-minded partners to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
