Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim encouraged attendees to use their creativity and innovation to promote human welfare in her speech at the 2024 International Exhibition of Young Inventors Aug. 3 in Taipei City.
Organized by New Taipei City Government, the Ministry of Education and Taipei City-based National Taiwan Normal University, the 20th IEYI takes place Aug. 2-9 both in-person and online. Over 800 ingenious students from 21 countries brought their ideas to the competition, Hsiao said, adding that she was glad that Taiwan could provide a platform for the young talents to showcase their dynamic creativity.
According to Hsiao, this year’s inventors explored categories such as disaster management, education, food and agriculture, green technology and sustainability, industrial design and devices related to daily convenience, recreation and sports, safety and health, technology for elderly people, and technology for special needs, all of which test the participants’ capacity to respond to challenges as global citizens.
As the activity coincides with the 2024 Summer Games, Hsiao encouraged the ambitious young learners to make contributions to the world in the same spirit of international friendship that underpins the Olympics.
Initiated in Japan, the IEYI is held by a different country each year in order to deepen students’ understanding of the world around them, both socially and scientifically. (POC-E)
