Backing for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly from the Kingdom of Eswatini, Marshall Islands, Nauru and St. Vincent and Grenadines is deeply appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs May 25.

Support from allies and like-minded partners in the Caribbean and Latin America for Taiwan’s bid to participate in the activities, mechanisms and meetings of the World Health Organization is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs May 24.

Taiwan has not been invited to attend the virtual 74th World Health Assembly (WHA), which commenced on May 24, as an observer. Minister of Foreign Affairs Jaushieh Joseph Wu and Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung issued a joint protest expressing the Taiwan government’s deep displeasure and asserted the firm determination of the government and people of Taiwan to continue to seek participation in the WHA.

The World Health Organization has designated 2021 the International Year of Health and Care Workers, and launched a year-long campaign under the theme “Protect. Invest. Together.” In order to echo this theme, the TaiwanICDF will co-host a webinar with global partners, and has produced a video titled “Joining Hands for Good.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the launch of Formosa Club in the Caribbean May 14, thanking members for their pledge to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the international governance system, including the World Health Organization.

The Formosa Club Indo-Pacific was launched May 7 via a videoconference involving Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Deputy Foreign Minister Tien Chung-kwang and a selection of the 250 lawmakers from 17 countries and territories who have joined the grouping.

A statement issued by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken backing Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly is sincerely appreciated by the government and people, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs May 8.

A short film spotlighting the ways Taiwan Can Help realize the World Health Organization’s goal of Health For All amid the COVID-19 pandemic and saluting front-line health care workers for International Year of Health and Care Workers was released May 6 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its sincere gratitude to the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and Senate Committee on Foreign Relations April 28 for initiating a global social media campaign supporting Taiwan’s participation in the 74th World Health Assembly.
