Hsinchu Hosts First Model APEC: Expanding Youth International Perspectives and Promoting City Diplomacy

Expanding the global perspective of Hsinchu City’s youth! The Hsinchu City Government, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Youth Association, has launched the “2024 Hsinchu City Youth Model APEC.” Acting Mayor Chiu Chen-Yuan attended the opening ceremony and highlighted three key features of the Model APEC this year: it is the first time the event is held in Hsinchu City, the first time high school students are allowed to participate, and the first time it is integrated with city diplomacy.

The Taitung County Government is promoting Taitung crafts and Austronesian international exchange through a series of events under the name “Ripples of the Pacific.” On August 1, a barkcloth workshop was held at the Dulan Sugar Factory, led by Tongan artist Tui Emma Gillies. The event attracted many participants interested in Austronesian culture and the art of barkcloth crafting.

Taiwan Documentary on 228 Incident to be screened at Malaysian film fest

The Cultural Division of the Taipei and Cultural Office in Malaysia, in collaboration with the Freedom Film Fest, will host screenings of “Taste of Wild Tomatoes (野番茄),” a documentary film by Taiwan-based Malaysian director Lau Kek-huat (廖克發). The screenings will take place on Aug. 16 in Kuala Lumpur and Aug. 17 in Malacca.

The 2024 Asian Physics Olympiad was held from June 3 to June 9 at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar campus in Perak, to encourage more young people to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.
