In response to the United States government’s April 5 (US EST) announcement that it had notified Congress of the sale to Taiwan of US$95 million in contractor technical assistance for the Patriot missile air defense system, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) today (April 6) said that the government of Taiwan is sincerely grateful for the development, which again demonstrates that the US government continues to uphold its security commitments to Taiwan under the Taiwan Relations

On the evening of March 30, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the annual Hsieh Nien Fan (謝年飯) banquet hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Taiwan (AmCham Taiwan). In remarks, President Tsai said she looks forward to continued collaboration with AmCham to bolster Taiwan-US trade and investment partnership, and expressed optimism that a creative and pragmatic approach to cooperation can achieve real progress toward a trade agreement that benefits both Taiwan and the US.

On the morning of March 29, President Tsai Ing-wen met with National Endowment for Democracy (NED) President Damon Wilson. In remarks at the meeting, President Tsai expressed optimism that the 11th Global Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy, to be cohosted by the NED and the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy this October, will continue to advance cooperation and solidarity among democracies and further strengthen global democratic development.

The government is committed to placing Taiwan at the center of global supply chains, cementing the country’s position in the world economy in the post-pandemic era, according to Vice President Lai Ching-te March 24.

President Tsai Ing-wen said March 21 that the government is committed to working with academics and businesses to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

On the afternoon of March 15, President Tsai Ing-wen attended an International Holocaust Remembrance Day event and delivered remarks, in which she said that history teaches us that unity is key to overcoming obstacles, and that unity has indeed never been more important as we seek to overcome the challenges we face today.

On March 14, President Tsai Ing-wen attended a luncheon with members of the foreign diplomatic corps to celebrate International Women’s Day. In remarks at the event, President Tsai noted that Taiwan has been actively working with other like-minded countries to establish mechanisms to promote gender equality, and pointed to Taiwan Gender Equality Week as a key platform for highlighting our progress in empowering women.

On the evening of March 10, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 2022 Spring Banquet for foreign ambassadors and representatives stationed in Taiwan. In remarks, the president thanked our diplomatic allies and like-minded countries for strongly supporting Taiwan’s international participation through a variety of means.

On the evening of March 8, President Tsai Ing-wen attended the Women’s Power Night reception, marking the opening of Taiwan Gender Equality Week 2022. In remarks at the event, President Tsai said that Taiwan stands at the forefront of efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment, and stated that Taiwan will continue to pursue broad engagement with like-minded nations and international organizations toward these goals.

In response to the recent flooding which has caused casualties and destruction in Queensland and New South Wales, Australia, and which broke a century-old single day rainfall record in Brisbane, with another round of heavy rains forecast to arrive in the area, Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said on March 7 that President Tsai Ing-wen expresses her sincere concern to the people and government of Australia, and sends her condolences to the victims and their families.
