Completion of Taiwan’s Largest Marine Engineering Project Significantly Boosts Port of Kaohsiung Competitiveness

The Taiwan International Ports Corporation (TIPC), with support and guidance from the Executive Yuan and Ministry of Transportation and Communications, is making strong progress in creating a new large container transshipment terminal that is ideally suited to the long-term needs of global shipping. As part of this effort, work finished in December 2019 on the nation’s largest-ever port land reclamation project – Port of Kaohsiung Intercontinental Container Terminal (ICT) Phase Two.

While meeting with AIT Chairman James Moriarty on the morning of March 5, President Tsai Ing-wen thanked the US House of Representatives for passing the Taiwan Allies International Protection and Enhancement Initiative (TAIPEI) Act with 415 votes in favor and zero opposed, taking concrete action to support Taiwan's efforts to secure our diplomatic relations, participate in international organizations, and enhance Taiwan-US trade relations.

Taiwan ranked Asia’s second-freest place in new report

Freedom House has ranked Taiwan as Asia’s second-freest place in the 2020 edition of its annual “Freedom in the World” report. Taiwan scored 93 out of a possible 100 points, putting it second only to Japan in the Asian region. China received only ten points. The erosion of democracy in Hong Kong led the territory to lose four points during the past year, with a final score of 55 points.

COVID-19 prevention guide for performances, exhibitions in Taiwan

To reduce the spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19, all affiliated orchestras and troupes of the Ministry of Culture will postpone their upcoming oversea performances. The Ministry is also urging art event organizers that have planned to invite performance groups from high-risk areas to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment to determine whether the proposed events should proceed.
