Buried Treasure: Truffles

In 2023 a research team from the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI) of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) discovered a new species of black truffle in Taitung County’s Taimali Township, and named it the Taitung black truffle (Tuber taitung) after the county. The truffle grows in areas between 300 and 600 meters above sea level, making it the lowest-elevation truffle species yet found in Taiwan.

Conservation and Wise Use: Restoring Taiwan’s Wetland Ecosystems

In November of 2024 the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) will hold its annual meeting in Asia for the first time since its founding 44 years ago. At the meeting, to be held in Taipei, the documentary Wild Wetlands will be shown, showcasing Taiwan’s achievements in wetland conservation to the world, as well as the unique scenery, flora and fauna of its wetlands.

National Languages Development Convention 2024 concludes

The 2nd National Languages Development Convention, launched in July, concluded on Oct. 27. It featured a series of forums co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture (MOC), Ministry of Education, Council of Indigenous Peoples, and Hakka Affairs Council, along with a main conference that brought together experts, researchers, officials, and representatives from non-governmental organizations in Taiwan and abroad.
