In the 1920s, a group of Taiwanese intellectuals and local gentry baptized in the waters of modern education formed something called the Central Club. This cultural organization, whose membership included prominent figures such as Lin Hsien-tang, Lin Zixiu, Chang Shen-chieh, and Loa Ho, went on to found the Central Bookstore.

President Tsai delivers address on Indigenous Peoples’ Day

On the morning of August 1, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, President Tsai Ing-wen delivered recorded remarks at an event marking the 27th anniversary of the government’s rectification of the legal term used to refer to Taiwan’s indigenous peoples.

Regarding the two new imported cases, Case #15786 is a Taiwanese male in his 40s. He returned to Taiwan from India on July 10. Case #15794 is a Taiwanese man in his 30s. He returned to Taiwan from Mexico on July 21.

MOC launches special Indigenous Peoples’ Day exhibition at S.Y.S. Memorial Hall

The Ministry of Culture launched a special exhibition on August 1 at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall to commemorate Taiwan’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day, inviting multi-ethnic artists to participate in the exhibition in hopes of highlighting the diversity of indigenous cultures, and their multifaceted cultural history.

Regarding the new imported case, Case #15780 is a Thai sailor in his 50s.The vessel he boarded arrived in Taiwan on July 25. When health units boarded the vessel for quarantine inspection, they found that he had a fever. He was then sent to the hospital for COVID-19 testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on July 31.

Regarding the four new imported cases, Case #15752 is an American woman in her 20s. She traveled to Taiwan from the US on July 28. Case #15753 is a Taiwanese boy under the age of 10. He returned to Taiwan from the US on July 28. Case #15754 is a Taiwanese woman in her 40s. She returned to Taiwan from the Philippines on July 1. Case #15768 is a Taiwanese male in his 50s. He was diagnosed with COVID-19 in Indonesia on July 4, and took an international air ambulance back to Taiwan on July 29.

Taiwan and the Philippines convene the 10th Meeting of the MECO-TECO Technical Working Group on Agricultural Cooperation via video conference and hold a B2B Forum of Agricultural Mechanization

The 10th Meeting of the MECO-TECO Technical Working Group on Agricultural Cooperation was held via video conference on July 29, 2021. Deputy Minister Chin-cheng Huang of Council of Agriculture of Taiwan and an Undersecretary of Department of Agriculture of the Philippines hosted the meeting jointly. Ambassador Pei-yung Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines and Vice Chairman Lauengco of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei also participated in the meeting.
