On May 17, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that due to the surges in the number of COVID-19 cases in Taiwan and other countries, Taiwan would implement new entry restrictions and measures listed below beginning 00:00 am on May 19 (departure time at the airport of departure).
The CECC also confirmed two new imported case today. Those two new imported cases are a Filipino man in his 30s and a Taiwanese woman in her 20s. They arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines and Haiti, respectively. They entered Taiwan on April 30 and May 16, respectively.
During 2020, Taiwan was relatively unaffected by the global pandemic. The Cyber Taiwan Pavilion was the only physical cybersecurity exhibition to take place in the Asia Pacific region. Furthermore, Taiwan’s cybersecurity industry flourished, with an 11.9 percent growth rate. This year, the Cyber Taiwan Pavilion was held on May 4-6 at Hall 2 of Taipei’s Nangang Exhibition Center.
On the afternoon of May 17, President Tsai Ing-wen addressed the opening of the 21st Asian Physics Olympiad via a pre-recorded video, in which she welcomed all Olympiad contestants from around the world and wished everyone a successful competition. The president further expressed hope that the event would allow participants to get to know one another better while deepening their interest in science.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the launch of Formosa Club in the Caribbean May 14, thanking members for their pledge to support Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the international governance system, including the World Health Organization.
