Taiwan is absolutely committed to defending the shared values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights in the face of China’s ongoing campaign of coercion, according to Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu.
On May 7, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced five new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those five new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (Cases #1175-1177), India (Case #1178) and the United Kingdom (Case #1179).
The World Health Organization has designated 2021 the International Year of Health and Care Workers, and launched a year-long campaign under the theme “Protect. Invest. The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) says it will donate 1,000 oxygenators to India after the chipmaker began accepting employee donations. India is currently hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with around 400,000 daily new cases reported in recent days.
