CECC removes Laos from its list of medium-risk countries in response to severe local infections in the country; CECC moves Bhutan to the list of medium-risk category as local cases in Bhutan continue to rise

On May 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported that local infections remained severe in Laos and cases rose rapidly in recent weeks in the country. Thus, the CECC will remove Laos from its list of medium-risk countries/region, effective immediately. The CECC also reported that local cases in Bhutan continued to increase. Therefore, the CECC will move Bhutan to its list of medium-risk countries/regions from low-risk countries/regions, effective immediately.

On May 4, President Tsai Ing-wen was announced as this year's winner of the John McCain Prize for Leadership in Public Service by the Halifax International Security Forum. Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang (張惇涵) said that President Tsai is honored to accept this award as a recognition not of her own accomplishments, but of those of all the people of Taiwan.

CECC confirms 7 more imported cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan and the US

On May 5, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced seven new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those seven new cases arrived in Taiwan from the Philippines (Case #1155), Indonesia (Case #1156 and Cases #1159-1161), Japan (Case #1157) and the United States (Case #1158).
