Premier Su Tseng-chang received a briefing Thursday from the National Development Council (NDC) on the Asia Silicon Valley Development Plan. He urged central and local governments to work together in strengthening investment and collaboration mechanisms between corporations and startups, encouraging procurement of startup products to boost government efficiency, and creating a startup development platform that provides comprehensive support from funding and talent to ecosystems and regulations.
Passengers using Taipei’s mass rapid transit (MRT) system are required to wear masks for the duration of their trip with immediate effect, regardless of whether they can maintain social distancing, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (Taipei Metro) said Thursday.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) said Wednesday said that all international students enrolled in Taiwan universities will be allowed to return to continue their studies, but it later made reversal on one aspect of the policy, saying students from China are not included. As part of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan had closed its borders to foreign nationals on Mar. 19, but has been gradually easing the restrictions to allow the return of some international students and others.
The CECC reported that coronavirus cases are rapidly increasing in Japan, with more than 1,000 new cases per day, and the majority of those cases are recorded in Japan’s urban areas that have frequent social exchanges and travel with Taiwan. In consideration of the status of the pandemic in the country, the CECC has removed Japan from the category of medium-risk countries.
