Taiwanese have more positive view of U.S. than China: survey

People in Taiwan rate the United States more positively than China, by more than 30 percentage points, a survey released by the nonpartisan American think tank Pew Research Center on Tuesday showed. About 68 percent of respondents held a favorable view of the U.S., while 35 percent had a similar view of China, according to opinion polling conducted in Taiwan by the Washington D.C. based institution from Oct. 16 to Nov. 30 last year.

Contingency plans in place for Chinese drills in South China Sea

Taiwan said Tuesday that contingency plans are in place for its outlying islands in the South China Sea, following a Japanese media report that the Chinese military is planning to conduct drills in the area to simulate the seizure of one of the islands.

Taoyuan Airport drops five spots in world rankings to 18

Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport ranks 18th among the world's 100 best airports, five places down from last year, according to the Skytrax 2020 World Airport Awards released Monday. The airport did best in the category of Best Airport Immigration, in which it ranks second, compared with fourth last year, according to the list, which is based on votes by customers in the world's largest annual airport customer satisfaction survey carried out over a 6-month period.
