The Singapore Red Cross and the Holy See's top envoy to Taiwan expressed gratitude to Taiwan on Wednesday for its donations of surgical face masks to help with their countries' response to the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic. At a handover ceremony in Singapore, Benjamin William, secretary- general of the country's Red Cross, accepted a donation of 100,000 surgical masks from Taiwan's representative to Singapore Francis Liang (梁國新).
Vice President Chen Chien-jen was recently interviewed by The New York Times and responded to questions regarding issues such as Taiwan’s efforts to fight the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), international cooperation to fight the pandemic, and Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Organization (WHO). The New York Times published segments of the interview on April 22.
Taiwan ranked 43rd in the 2020 World Press Freedom Index released April 21 by France-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF), spotlighting the country’s efforts maintaining media independence while ensuring a safe environment for journalists.
