MOFA solemnly condemns and refutes statements by China’s Taiwan Affairs Office aimed at undermining Taiwan’s participation in APEC

At a regular press conference on November 12, a spokesperson of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office stated that Taiwan could only participate in next year’s APEC activities as a regional economy under the so-called “one China principle.” China will serve as the host economy for APEC in 2026.

The United States Department of State and Republican members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee have publicly refuted highly inappropriate statements by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which said that the political prerequisite for Taiwan’s involvement in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings would be participating as a regional economy under the so-called “one China principle.” They have also voiced strong backing for Taiwan’s equal participation in APEC.

At the 2025 APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) in Korea that concluded at noon on November 1 (local time), Senior Advisor to the President and Chairman of Taiwania Capital Management Corporation Lin Hsin-i served as Taiwan’s leader’s representative. Leader’s Representative Lin participated in the full meeting and shared Taiwan’s contributions to the global economic system, successfully completing the mission entrusted to him by President Lai Ching-te.
