Chengzhou Elementary School, Wugu District, New Taipei City recently held a Chinese language course for new immigrants. The school prepared cooked glutinous rice balls with garland chrysanthemum to share with the foreign students and the Rotary International (RI) that supports this project. The new immigrants were amazed with the colorful dish and said, “This shows how friendly Taiwanese are”.

National Immigration Agency (NIA), New Taipei City Brigade, Thailand Trade and Economic Office, Labor Affairs Department, New Taipei City Government, and police stations collaborate to encourage foreign nationals, including undocumented migrant workers and overstayers to receive free vaccination.

A lady from the Philippines, Mary (pseudonym), visited Taiwan for business purposes. Because of her strong desire to live in Taiwan, she has stayed here for 10 years without obtaining legal status and has been earning a living by doing part-time jobs. Being accompanied by a friend, Mary got vaccinated at the Taipei Main Station on December 11.

December 18 is International Migrants Day, and it is also celebrated in Taiwan. The Ministry of the Interior National Immigration Agency (NIA) and the Pingtung County Government held the “Migrants Day (南國共好、攜手前行)” Immigration Festival celebration in Victory Star Village (屏東勝利星村) in Pingtung.

An automated chatbot service for migrant workers on instant messaging app LINE has been upgraded with a function that provides automatic notifications to workers on their visa and employment status, the Ministry of Labor (MOL) said Friday.

The United Nations set December 18 as International Migrants Day. To promote the human rights of immigrants and respect for multiculturalism, the Ministry of the Interior also set “International Migrants Day” as Taiwan’s “Immigration Festival” in 2011.
