CECC will tighten quarantine measures for travelers coming to Taiwan starting from January 15 and make group quarantine facilities available to arriving travelers

On January 6, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that considering that the number of travelers coming to Taiwan would increase as the Lunar New Year holiday approaches, which would increase inbound travelers’ need for places to undergo quarantine, it would make 1,500-2,000 rooms of group quarantine facilities available for travelers entering Taiwan.

The National Development Council (NDC) has for years past been coordinating a solution to the problem of inconsistency between the numbering of Alien Resident Certificates (ARCs) and the numbering of citizens’ ID cards. Now, at last, this problem will be solved with the introduction of a new uniform identity number (UI No.) format for foreign nationals, consistent with the format of national ID cards, marking a new milestone in creating a friendly environment for foreign nationals in Taiwan.

CECC announces adjustments to regulations for foreign nationals entering Taiwan beginning January 1, 2021, in response to continued spread of COVID-19 pandemic

Given the continued severity of COVID-19 worldwide and in order to secure domestic antipandemic efforts and ensure public health, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announces that beginning January 1, 2021, at 00:00 (local time at the airport of departure), entry restrictions and quarantine regulations for foreign nationals will be tightened.

CECC removes Thailand and Bhutan from its list of medium-risk countries/regions as local cases in the two countries continue to surge

On December 30, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported that Bhutan and Thailand continued to report locally-transmitted coronavirus cases. In consideration of the status of the pandemic in the two countries, the CECC has removed Bhutan and Thailand from its list of medium-risk countries/regions, effective immediately.

On December 23, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported that the coronavirus pandemic continued to spread in Thailand, Bhutan, and Australia. In light of the recent developments regarding the pandemic, the CECC moves Australia, Bhutan, and Thailand to the list of medium-risk countries from the low-risk category, effective immediately.

Taiwan to launch new ID numbering format for foreign nationals in 2021

A new numbering system for Alien Resident Certificates will take effect Jan. 2, 2021 as part of ongoing government efforts to create a friendly environment for foreign nationals living in Taiwan, the Ministry of the Interior said Dec. 16.

CECC confirms 2 more imported COVID-19 cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Myanmar and Indonesia

On December 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 2 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those 2 new cases arrived in Taiwan from Myanmar (Case #720) and Indonesia (Case #721).

CECC moves Australia to its list of low-risk countries as local infections in the country are brought under control

On December 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 2 new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan, Cases #720-721). As of writing, a cumulative total of 113,230 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 111,291. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 720 cases.

Starting on December 4, Taiwan to suspend entry of all Indonesian migrant workers for two weeks

On November 30, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that it would temporarily suspend entry of all Indonesian migrant workers coming to Taiwan to work for two weeks, from December 4 until December 17, in response to the escalating coronavirus situation in Indonesia and to ensure domestic epidemic prevention efforts and to reduce imported infections through Indonesian migrant workers.

Starting from November 30, entry of Indonesian migrant workers arranged by six more Indonesian employment agencies is temporarily suspended
